What Lincoln is Thinkin' - Ramblings

- Dillon and Myrtle Beach both deserve a lot of credit for battling back from tragedy to win state titles. Dillon assistant Willie Fred Daniels died last winter, and Myrtle Beach assistant Greg Skipper died a month ago, and both teams were able to honor their coaches and take home the title. It was an emotional day at Death Valley.

- Now with Jackie a winner, the only legendary coach without a title is Chuck Jordan. Unfortunately, Conway is going in the wrong direction. The cupboard is pretty bare next year, with few players returning. Then again, I've heard more about quarterback Mykal Moody then I have about any other middle school player since I started covering high school football. So apparently he's pretty special.

- On the hoops scene, there is a lot of struggling going on right now. It seems to me, for whatever reason, more teams have started slow this year than last year. To me, the only teams that could be labeled "very good" right now would be Hemingway, Mullins and Wilson. There's a pretty big dropoff after that.

- Myrtle Beach may turn out to be pretty good, but you have to wonder how long it will take their football championship hangover to go away. 10 players just joined the team this week because of the prolonged football schedule. Jamere Valentine, meanwhile, will spend next week at the Shrine Bowl. So you have to wonder if coach DeAndre Scott will be able to pull this team together to make a title defense.

- Speaking of Valentine, either he or Malliciah Goodman would be very worthy of Mr. Football... but my guess is Sumter running back Roderick McDowell will get it.

What are you thinkin' about he end of the football season, and the beginning of the basketball season?
