A West Virginia Christmas vacation
First off, I just want to say to everyone that I hope you had very happy holidays. My Christmas was very fun. My husband and I were able to go to go to West Virginia to visit my family. It was a great, but stressful time, as it always is whenever you get family together for any holiday.
Randy and I set off to West Virginia at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday the 23rd. We get to my parents house around 4:00 p.m. and as soon as we get everything out of the car and into my old bedroom my mom asks, “Will you ride to Logan with me to pick up a cake and a pizza?” I’ve just been in a car for 9 ½ hours and my mom wants me to sit in a car for at least two hours longer. To be honest, I didn’t really feel like it, but I wanted to spend time with my mom so I went anyway. We start walking out to her car and she acts like she’s going to get into the passenger seat. I look at her like she’s crazy because she knows I drove the whole 9 ½ hours. That pretty much covers day one in West Virginia.
Day two, Christmas Eve. My mom wakes me up around 9:30 that morning and asks if she could talk to me about something. See, my brother wanted Randy and I to go to Charleston, WV to go Christmas shopping with him and get back in time to go to my grandma’s house for Christmas Eve…. Things apparently did not go as planned for my brother when he got off work though. All of the workers at the mine my brother works at were promised that they would get their paycheck on Christmas Eve. Well, I guess when it was quitting time the guys in the office told the guys that they were not going to be getting paid that day and that they may get their paychecks on the following Friday.
Anyway….. My mom asks Randy and me to drive to Beckley to go to American Eagle to pick up an outfit for my brother and his daughter. She gives me the sizes and pretty much tells me what to get my brother. When she starts talking about my niece I ask her if I could just pick out what I thought she would like because, I’m a little closer to her age than my mom is. Now, my mom has only known me for 26 freaking years, she knows my taste, and still says yes. She knew the styles that I would end up getting her, so my mom should have just said no to begin with. When we get back, my mom pretty much likes what I picked out for my brother, because it was basically what she told me to get. She looks at the jeans I picked out for my niece and was like, “Well, I guess she may like these. I don’t know.” Then, when she looked at the shirt she was like, “I can’t believe you picked this shirt out for her! You should have gotten a better shirt!” Wow, ok! You should have been a little more specific as to what you wanted me to get rather than giving me the ok to pick something out all by myself for her. Also, while we’re at it, don’t ask me to drive two hours to a store and back to help you all out anymore if you’re gonna give me hell about it! It’s not like the shirt was cheap either!
After all of that excitement, we head over to my grandma’s for Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve is when we celebrate, not Christmas day so much. We open presents there and then head to my parent’s house to open the rest of our gifts. I got a snowboard for Christmas and Randy got an acoustic guitar. My family gave me so much hell about the snowboard though. If someone wasn’t saying I was going to kill myself on it, they were asking why I needed a snowboard when I live in Myrtle Beach. First off, I have been snowboarding, it’s not that hard. Secondly, because I live at the beach I don’t want to travel away from it and do other things? Come on people. I guess they think if you live at the beach, then you should never want to go anywhere else.
Then, day three came, Christmas day. Christmas day went pretty smooth. I went over to my aunt Pam’s house because my cousin Heidi and her family had just got in town. After hanging out for a little while, I went back to my parent’s house and then went ahead to my grandma’s house for Christmas dinner. After Christmas dinner Randy and I decided to go to my friend Tiffany’s house. While at Tiffany’s house we ended up playing Scrabble and Catch Phrase. Tiffany’s house was honestly a big break for us. I love hanging out with my family, but you have to take small breaks from them when you’ve been around them for too long in three days time.
Friday, day 4, was pretty cool. I’m letting my hair grow out (for real this time) and I needed a trim bad. I went to the lady who has been cutting my hair since I was in probably junior high school. She cut my hair very well and waxed my eyebrows as well. After I got finished with that, my mom and I went to town to pick up a few things. While my mom and I were busy doing that, my dad and Randy went up into the mountains to ride around and shoot guns. Later that night mom and I went to a place called JR’s Night Club. This place has been in my town for quite sometime, but it has always had different names. When I was a kid it was called the Smoke House. We hung out there until about 11 p.m. After that, we went home and I got all of our stuff together to head back to SC the next day.
We left to head back to SC at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. We got back into town around 4:30 p.m. and unpacked. So there you have it, my Christmas vacation.

Drive 2 hours to pick up cake and pizza?
Jesus H Christ. Do you have running water?
Where in WV do you live? Did y’all drive a mule to Logan? 2 hours for cake and pizza! I would have had Dad and Randy shoot some squirrels. Y’all could have made some rodent pizzas. I’m glad you had a good time and made it back safely to civilization.
